Campership Application

        2013 Summer Camp Season

Camperships can be requested to assist with fees for:

  • Camp Friedlander Boy Scout Summer Camp
  • Resident Camp (Cub World)
  • Webelos Week (Cub World)
  • Fun with Son (Cub World)
  • Cub Scout Day/Twilight Camp

Funding of Camperships:

The Campership program is designed to assist Scouts attending Dan Beard Council camping programs who might not otherwise have an opportunity to participate.  Funding is provided through the United Way, Friends of Scouting, and the order of the Arrow, who believes camping is the primary method of leadership and character development.  The major portion of the funding is given to the Dan Beard Council with specific directions to us for in-council camps only.

                                                         Campership Availability:

A campership will assist the Scout in payment of camping fees associated with participation in a Council camping experience.  Camperships may only be used at Dan Beard Council camps. Camperships are awarded based on need and a demonstration by the Scout of a desire to earn a portion of the camp fee through service.  Camperships must be requested responsibly to ensure that this opportunity is available to as many Scouts as possible.

Application Process:

What you will need to begin the registration process:

The Unit Leaders First and Last Name,

Email

Current Position in Unit

Unit Number and District Name.

    1. The parents of the scout will fill out the personal information. The entire campership request will need to be filled out and printed then signed by the parent requesting the assistance. You will then give the application to the Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, or Crew Advisor they will sign and submit the request to the Scout Achievement Center by Monday, June 16, 2013.
    2. Although the service project is optional if you would include a detailed statement regarding the Scout(s) plan to “earn” the campership through service. Campership service projects must be in addition to the service used for rank advancement. While not required, it is strongly recommended that service be completed at one of the Dan Beard Council camps – this will enhance the Scout’s feeling of “earning his way to camp.” Suggested service projects include participation in the OA Root Beer float sale or participating in a Camp Conservation Day.  If you include a campership service project the preference will be given to those scouts who have completed a service project.
    3. Camperships may not be used for Nation Youth Leadership Training (NYLT), World or National Jamborees, High Adventure treks or district events. Contact your District Executive regarding other sources of assistance for these events.
    4. Camperships will only be awarded for the Scout named on the application.
    5. Campership funds must be requested for one camping experience for the Scout.
    6. You will fill out separate applications for each Scout. The request must come from the parent(s) of the Scout.
    7. Camperships funds may only be requested for up to 50% of the early registration discount camp fees. Allocated funds will be based on funds available, individual Scout need and number of applicants. Requested amounts are not guaranteed.
    8. Once the application has been received, the Campership Committee will meet and review the applications. A notice of approved camperships will be sent to the Unit Leader via email. Once received it is important that you verify the scout(s) that requested the campership(s) are still attending camp and has paid the additional 50% of the fee. Once confirmed mail or bring in the signed request(s). This will tell the committee which Scout(s) have taken the opportunity to attend camp and also prompts council to apply the credit(s) to your summer camp account.
    9. To check on the status of an application, please contact Jennifer Pangallo, Camping Secretary at        513-577-7700.
